Sponsors Needed to Touch Soles
St. Thomas the Apostle 6th grade RE students are holding a shoe cutting party to benefit Sole Hope. Please consider sponsoring a pair of shoes for a child in Uganda, Africa. Your $10 donation, checks*** made payable to Sole Hope (a 501(c)3 organization), will provide a pair of shoes for a child, employment for members of their community and education about how jiggers affect Ugandans and medical relief from jiggers. A simple pair of shoes has the power to save lives!
***your donation is tax deductible. Sole Hope will send you a receipt for Tax Purposes. Your check will be attached to the material for a pair of shoes. Because of this, cash can not be accepted!
You can always donate more than $10! This would be a great service project for your own children as well - tied into the Corporal Works of Mercy, they could do chores to earn the money to donate!
Phase 1- February 14 - February 21:
We need your denim! And NOT THE GOOD STUFF!!! If you would donate that pair of jeans to a resale shop, we don't want it! We are looking for old denim with holes, frayed cuffs, broken zippers and torn pockets! We're going to be cutting them up to make the shoes, so give us your worst!
We are also looking to upcycle old plastic or vinyl school folders or any type of clean plastic packaging. These will comprise the heel of the shoes, so they don't have to be huge. We're looking to cut a couple of half-circles out of plastic for each pair of shoes. Old, plastic school folders work great. We do NOT want any packaging that had food or liquid in it, as those would be too messy!
To be collected February 14 - February 21

Phase 3 - Shoe Cutting Party - TBD
If you love to upcycle, this is the party for you! We will be looking for lots of volunteers, aged high school and up, to cut the materials for the shoes. If you have fabric scissors, bring them! The 6th grade RE students will trace the outlines of the shoe parts onto the denim and plastic, and then we'll cut them out!
