St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Crystal Lake, IL is a large parish of almost 4,000 families, and we are committed to discipleship and evangelization. The Youth Ministry program seeks to lead all our youth into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ in and through the Catholic Church and the sacramental life. The culture of youth has changed dramatically in the last several years, and we are committed to developing creative, new and innovative ways to present the kerygma and preach the gospel. We seek to fulfill the Church's call to a new evangelization and to explore what that looks like in Youth Ministry for today's youth. Responsibilities:
- Evangelizing and discipling the youth of Crystal Lake, IL.
- Collaborating with Director of Junior High Youth Ministry and the Youth Ministry Secretary to develop programs and events for Junior High and High School youth. Collaborating with parish staff in other ministries. Collaborating with other local parish Youth Ministry programs.
- Evaluating Youth Ministry models and methods along with the ever-changing culture of youth, and developing new and innovative strategies to better minister to the youth.
- Working 1-3 evenings each week (Mondays and Wednesdays), most Sunday afternoons and some Sunday evenings. Occasionally working weekends for events such as retreats, camps or conferences.
- Plan, coordinate and execute regular on-going Youth Ministry events for both Junior High and High School youth, including but not limited to social events, service events, retreats, camps, conferences and discipleship groups.
- Coordinate and manage the second year of the Confirmation program.
- Communicate and engage teens and their families via social media, mass text messages and emails.
- Manage budget for the High School Youth Ministry Department in conjunction with the Junior High Youth Ministry Department's budget.
- Meet with Pastor regularly to discuss progress in ministry, personal goals, problems, etc.
- Any other duties or responsibilities assigned by the Pastor or agreed upon by the Youth Ministry department.
- Has a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and is faithful to the teachings of the Catholic Church.
- Has a passion for helping teens grow closer to Jesus.
- Bachelor's degree is required. Degree in Youth Ministry, Theology or other related field is preferred, but not required.
- Previous experience in Youth Ministry is preferred, but not required.
- Intends on remaining in this position for at least 3-5 years.
- Must be open to change and innovation. Should be particularly flexible when last-minute changes are necessary.
- Must have exceptional communication and people skills.
- Must be able to work in collaboration with a team, and get along with a diverse and dynamic staff.
- Proficient with technology and willingness to learn. Familiarity with Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, etc. is preferred.
- Proficient with various social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook.
- Ability to lead worship music is preferred, but not required.
